I found this article on pricing, which compares fan art commission prices versus professional prices.

New artists often seem to find pricing a great mystery...what I want to say to all of you is, do not be afraid to charge a fair price for your art!
When I have time to do fan art commissions I do not charge very much, between $30-60. I feel comfortable doing this because most of the fan arts are fast doodles that are fun to do, and the commissioners are individuals who are buying the art for personal enjoyment. I am also lucky enough to have a "real" art job that actually pays the bills, so the fan art commission fee is just fun spending money. If you need to raise money for something important, like groceries or the phone bill, do not feel guilty asking for more! Think about the amount of time you spend doing a piece of commission artwork. Are you making more than minimum wage? Are you charging enough to cover the cost of materials, PLUS your time?
The commissioners that complain about prices are not going to appreciate the art anyway. If they do not think your art is even worth minimum wage, why give it to them? Some half-hearted kudos are not going to pay the bills. Take a look at the professional fee scale on that post above. I can tell you from experience that it is correct, and that well known artists often get paid far more.
Being an artist is a legitimate occupation. Do not feel guilty asking for money. *waves sparkly pompoms* Go get'em!

I'm alive!
Howdy, is anybody here? The last journal posted is from 2016!
Things are good. My Kidlet is now in college, majoring in civil engineering. He can drive better than me and has a girl friend. We are up to 6 cats. I am still working in animation. Every time I get the urge to delete this old Dev Art account, I start reading all the comments and don't want to throw that away...so it remains up, despite how bad the old art looks to me now, haha. Hope you all are doing well, drop by and say hi!
Hi guys!
Happy holidays!
Boy, it has been a year since I posted anything here. I got eaten by real life, pretty much. My kid is in high school now but can't drive yet. I am all over the place after work, ferrying the kid around to club activities, volunteer work, sports meets, etc. And I thought things would get less busy once kids get older! I have not had the time to do anything like fan arts in a long time. But life is good. I am still working in animation, still have too many cats, still enjoy reading fan fiction. Hope you guys are all good too, stay warm!
Back online
It took almost a month, but we finally have internet back at the house, woohoo! My area had a huge storm blow through 3 weeks back, which created all sorts of issues with the infrastructure. We were one of the last in the area to get internet restored. It has been very long, boring 3 weeks. I will catch up with comments and such soon! I am not able to take any more commissions at the moment. RL work starts next week and I will also be going away for a few days over the holidays. I will open up more spots late January if work is not too busy, since I know some people missed out last time!
off the grid
Hi guys! The internet has been down at my house for 2 weeks now. I was planning on opening more commission spots , but that will have to wait until I can get reliable internet again, hopefully next week. Thank you for the comments, I will reply when I can! Right now I am checking email and such at the local library, and they are only open 3 days a week, boo. It gets rather boring here in the boonies without internet.

I'm so confused. I just opened commissions for drawings (just for fun), but I'm not that good at drawing, and I am charging 200 points. Is that too much in your opinion? I don't wanna charge too much or too little.
